The hardest part about making comics is...the waiting. But it's also what makes it kind of fun. Making comics is not instantly gratifying for creators like it is for the reader. I am also a singer/songwriter and over the years have recorded plenty of albums and it's a similar process. You spend a lot of time behind the scene, busting your butt to create something (which all the while all you want to do is share it with people) and you have to wait a long time before you can get that feedback that creative people thrive upon. It's cool being in the moment creating these things but there's nothing like listening to your finished album all the way through for the first time or doing a final read through of your finished comic. That's what makes the whole process worth it. If people like it and respond positively to it, that's just icing on the cake.
So that's what I've been doing. Working behind the scenes on some things and a couple of them are getting closer to share. First is a 4 page short called "He's Heating Up". This is my small tribute to the game of basketball. I am waiting on the final letters for this and hoping I can get it out within the next week, which would be perfect timing with the NBA Finals going on right now. (Go Heat)
The second project getting closer to being let loose on the world is a weekly web comic that I am doing with George Kambadias. We had so much fun on the "Surprise, Surprise" short, that I knew I had to work with George again. George loves the super hero genre, so we decided to resurrect a pitch called "Blinded" that I worked on a few years ago. Right now we are going to put it out on our own and maybe down the road we will use Kickstarter to try to fund printing hard copies. For now it will just be exciting to have the story finished and out there. We're also going to bring back the rest of the team from "Surprise, Surprise, so Paulina is back on colors and Thomas will be doing the letters. I'm not 100% sure when this will launch. I've been busy working on the website design and George is working on the pages. I think we are going to wait until we have a good back log of pages before we launch. Stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, check out this inked page from George.
So that's the latest on my end. I just got the rough layouts from Aleksi on "The Adventures of Android Jones", so that should be coming soon as well. Unfortunately the artist who was working on my "mother/son" short had to back out because of some other projects, so I am back on the hunt for an artist on that. Also the artist I had lined up to work on my Western script has had to push that back till August. A few delays, but that's part of the game and we'll keep moving forward.
Thanks for reading. Talk to you soon.
